The NW Coast of Costa Rica is ideal for off-shore bill fishing and in-shore Game fishing! The largest group of charter fishing boats is located in Flamingo and range from basic to luxurious (28 to 48 feet). All bill fishing from Flamingo is in accordance with "catch and release" guidelines  by the "Billfish Foundation "   Major "Costa Rica fishing tournaments" are held each year out of Flamingo.

BILLFISHING Sixteen to twenty miles west of Flamingo, the water depth increases from 360 to 2,000 feet and again from 2,000 feet to ...... This provides a complete eco-system of sea-life. Predominant species include: sailfish; blue marlin, black marlin and striped marlin; dorado and yellowfin tuna. A full day is best for a good off shore fishing trip.

May through October is ideal for Sailfish.  Marlin fishing is good year round, peak months being July thru October and January, February.  May is the very beginning of our rains, mild and typically on shore. The rains gradually increase and peak during the month of October which can have rains 70% of the time. If there are a lot of Hurricanes moving west from Puerta Rica to Cancun, Costa Rica will have a lot of rain. No hurricane winds but rain.  By mid-November the rains have totally stopped until April-May. Temperatures are typically in the mid to high 80's. Costa Rica Gamefishing - Four miles from Flamingo are the Catalina and Brummel Islands and rock outcroppings called the Sombreros. This area provides a year round abundance of: Yellowfin Tuna, Skipjack Tuna, Wahoo, Sierra Mackerel, Almaco Jack, and Jack Cravelle. A variety of Snapper including Pacific Cubera or Dog Tooth, Rooster fish up to 75 pounds, Grouper, Black Tipped Sharks, and other reef and bottom dwellers live in this area. Normally 1/2 day trips are sufficient for these island trips.
